TASK 3: CLOSING THE LOOP BETWEEN CDR ASSESSMENT, CLIMATE, AND ENERGY SYSTEMS

We will investigate the impacts of CDR deployment scenarios at scale and examine the trade-offs between achieving absolute zero emissions and mitigation of “residual” emissions using CDR. This requires an expansion of LCA and TEA boundaries to include a more detailed representation of background systems and interactions, comparison of CDR with competing mitigation technologies, and improved characterization of climate impacts by integrating LCA/TEA results with the parameters used by climate modelers. This task will provide improved feedback as to how CDR technologies will address climate change over time and what scale-ups are needed or desirable from a global perspective.
